A transformer blows out and you are left without lights. A field service engineer is sent out by your electric company right away to restore power, but they can’t find the transformer, which have a nasty habit of being in the middle of a field or forest rather than a street. The field service engineer could easily fix the outage if only he could find the transformer more quickly.
This was exactly the situation at Essent North, before they decided to do something about it. Essent North asked Tensing to develop a solution. Now engineers have PDAs that don’t navigate to the address of the outage, but to the exact location of the transformer causing the outage, no matter where it is. Directions used to be “At the next intersection take a left” are now “the exact location is 20 meters southeast of your current position.” Yes, it’s just that easy.
